HOW WE STARTED

In 2017, The Source church was founded as a Sunday afternoon gathering of Christian friends who believed God desired to source mission from beautiful Uganda. This fellowship soon grew into a church family meeting every Sunday morning, with a team of elders devoted to shepherding the family – teaching, praying, leading and encouraging growth in Christ. But The Source church really traces its roots to what God has done in Uganda and Africa over the last 100+ years! At the dawn of the 20th century, there were 10 million Christians in all of Africa. But over the next 100 years, the African church skyrocketed to 360 million believers. Not since the early church has the world seen God at work like that! Today, there are more Anglicans in Uganda than there are in England. By 2050, a majority of all Protestant Christians in the world will be African! Ugandans received the gospel with unprecedented eagerness when the first missionary arrived in 1882. And they have been receiving ever since: receiving missionaries, receiving short-term teams, receiving all kinds of material assistance. But the faith Uganda has received is a giving and going faith, a faith that finds its source in a missionary God who gave us His Son and inspired generations of missionaries to go to distant places like Uganda. Today, the need for the gospel in places North – in North Africa, the Middle East, post-Christian Europe, and increasingly America – has never been greater. But most African Christians still think a missionary is, by definition, a white or a mzungu. We don’t believe that! Uganda is the source of the Nile, which for thousands of years has been a source of life as this mighty river flows north. But these lands also need Living Water as well, the water which many in Uganda have drunk deeply. We believe now is Africa’s God-ordained time to move from a mission field to a mission force. It’s time to (re)source God’s mission. From Uganda—for the good of Uganda, the blessing of the nations, and the Glory of God. ..
